...to the summit of Snowdon

he Miner's Track (4 miles to summit; 2hr 30 min; 2400ft ascent) is one of three routes up from the youth hostel at Pen-y-Pass. It approximates the route of the Pig Track, but there are differences. The Pig track is more difficult at the start, while the Miner's Track is easier and more scenic for the first two miles, but then has a fairly difficult scree-climb after passing Llyn Llydaw. The Miner's track follows the lower route, taking hikers close to three beautiful lakes and the ruins of old copper mining buildings, while the Pig Track follows a path above the lakes and ruins.
Leaving the car park, a broad track leads south then west for about 2 miles to the former copper mines in Cwm Dyli. The ruins occupy the shore of the beautiful Llyn Llydaw, which is divided by the "miner's causeway." The derelict sorting and crushing mills can be seen on the lake shore. Skirting around the right of the lake, the path climbs more steeply to the lake-filled Cwm Glaslyn, then steeply again to upper Glaslyn, from where the measured steps of those ahead warn of the impending switchback ascent to the junction with the Llanberis Path: the famous zig-zag to Snowdon's ridge.
